On Friday, May 10, Central Carolina Academy held a recognition ceremony for its eighth graders. Principal Greg Batten welcomed parents and family and thanked all family members who are police, fire and military for their service. Teacher Cindy Quiggle then introduced and thanked the student members of the 8th grade SGA. They came together and worked diligently to plan every part of this program from meeting with administration, planning, designing invitations and awards and even decorating the photo backdrop.

The members were Eleanor Secor, Katherine Ochylski, Presley Hill, Adeline Hinsley, Sidney Lawler, and Madison Bell. Eleanor Secor followed with a speech that summed up her reasons for coming to CCA and her successes here. She also thanked each 8th grade teacher specifically.

Teachers Susan Davis and Britney Canter presented eight “Talon Awards” (All A’s all year) and the twenty-two “High Flyer’s Awards” (All A/B all year). The “Masters of the Sky” (individual subject awards) and the “Soaring” (most improved in each subject) were presented by each teacher. Teacher Amanda Carter recognized all of the 8th graders who participated in athletics here at CCA.

The last award to be presented was the Eagle Citizenship Award. The 8th grade teachers nominated several students and the entire CCA staff voted on the winners. These students are kind and friendly to both peers and staff, they have a strong work ethic, consistently make good choices and are strong role models for all of their classmates. The two students that won this award are Reese Gaines and Jax Gaddy. Mr. Batten ended the program by thanking the students for their hard work and wishing them the best.
